Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you’re all having a great week. Today I wanted to share a few of my thoughts about why I’ve decided to go back to school. I’ve gone through some phases in my life…Phase 1: I don’t know what I want to study in college, so I’ll go straight into the work force. Phase 2: I want to study Accounting and become a professional. Phase 3: I don’t like Accounting, and I want to own my own business. Phase 4: I own my own online business and don’t need a degree. However, I’d like a degree to enhance my knowledge in the technology industry (All the while still wanting to be an entrepreneur).
Is anyone else out there like me with a little bit of indecision throughout life lol?? Ok now that that’s out of the way, I believe any phase is OK as long as you’re happy 🙂 The degree I’m choosing is pretty commonly self-taught because of the unlimited resources on the WWW, but I’m choosing a structured learning style because of my personality. So here are the reasons I chose the field of Web & Software Development:
—> IF I do choose to use my degree to be an employee and not a software entrepreneur, it’s among the top 10 most enjoyable careers. I believe this is because developers are always creating things, and I believe that’s when people are the happiest.
—> I believe this will challenge me. Like many people say, “I like a good challenge.” It’s so true because nobody wants to be bored. I want to prove to myself that I can comprehend computer screens of strange looking codes and sentences that seem foreign lol.
—> The Software Development industry is projected to grow 24 percent over the next ten years. This is much faster than the average for all occupations. I realize that job security is not really a thing, but it’s nice to know there will always be positions in demand.
—> I love designing my blog. This is what originally attracted me to the idea. Creating a site and designing the look of a website is super fun.
—> I’d enjoying learning how to create things that help people. I’m imagining creating an app or program that makes other’s lives easier. This would go hand in hand with the entrepreneurial avenue I could take by creating my own projects.
—> Learning is awesome. I love to learn and have committed to being a life-long learner. Whether it’s constantly reading books on my own time, or it being in an online classroom setting, I always love gaining new knowledge.
—> The pay is good. I’m not gonna lie and say that money isn’t important to me because that would be really lame. So, it’s obviously motivating to me to know that if I do work in this industry, the average starting pay can be high.
—> It could enhance my current online shopping business. I like teaching people ways to save and make money with my business. Going for this degree I feel will only boost my self-confidence in dealing with people, working in teams, and being familiar with the online world.
—> It’s out of my comfort zone. I’ve gotten to the point that if something intimidates me, I must try it. I’m not a typical tech candidate because I have absolutely no experience in web and software development. I knew Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, traveling to certain places, buying a business and talking to people about it, etc were all out of my comfort zone which meant I must try them! Same with this.
—> The chances of working from home are good. If you have a job in this industry, there’s a good chance you can work from home. Since we plan to have more kids, this would be really convenient! Working from home is what I’m ultimately looking for with all of my opportunities.
I hope this in some way inspired you today! Thank you for reading.
